The film is based on 200,000 women's stories across England and Wales, across the fifties, sixties and seventies, who were forced into giving their babies up for adoption – their “punishment” for getting pregnant out of wedlock. We follow Mabel, a 19-year-old who is desperately searching for her child in 1960s England. However, the search isn't simple, as she constantly battles with everyone else's thoughts that this is the best for her child.
